"At the beginning of my transfer experience, I was terrified about changing schools, but from the moment I stepped on campus, I knew I was home."

Sophie Hirt

What is your year and major?

I’m a junior Liberal Arts major with a concentration in English.

What is your anticipated graduation year?

My anticipated graduation year is 2026.

Why did you choose the Mount?

I chose the Mount because I wanted a small school atmosphere that supported me both academically and socially. The Mount has quickly become my home away from home, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

How did the Mount help accommodate your transfer needs?

The Mount helped accommodate my transfer needs by guiding me through each process. The Mount accommodated my every need from submitting my applications to acquiring an on-campus job.

Are you involved in any student organizations or extracurriculars? If so, how have these supported your academic success?

I’m involved in a multitude of things on campus, such as co-leading Hidden Gems, our young women’s Bible study, being a Campus Ambassador, Mission Ambassador, a Lions-on-Line editor, being a part of Writer’s Block, and was an Orientation Leader for Freshman Orientation last summer. These activities have supported my academic success by simply enriching my college experience. These extracurriculars have allowed me to meet new people and develop a deeper sense of identity.

How do you manage your course load along with other obligations?

I try to take a mental note of my to-do list each day, and adjust it as needed. I try to do my schoolwork when I have an extra bit of time during the day just to make sure I’m utilizing all the time I have. Additionally, also try to make a little time for myself each day, whether that is going to the gym, going on a walk, taking a nap, or going to the chapel to spend time with Jesus. That personal time each day is what helps me to stay on track.

Are there any staff or professors you would like to credit who helped accommodate your transfer experience?

Buffy Barkley was one of the professors who helped accommodate my transfer experience the most. Not only did she help me pick and choose my classes, she also helped me accommodate to campus and a completely different degree path than what I had previously done. She has continued to support me on my journey here at Ó£ÌÒɬ¸£Àû¼§, and for that I’m endlessly grateful.

Describe one of your favorite memories at the Mount so far.

One of my favorite memories at the Mount so far was when my roommate and I had our Galantine’s Hidden Gems meeting last year. We got to share our faith and fellowship with so many wonderful girls, and that’s truly an event I’ll never forget.

What advice would you give to someone looking to transfer to the Mount?

Be yourself! Please soak up every moment, because college only lasts for a very short time. Look for the beauty in everything and enjoy the wonderful friendships you will obtain. Love more, and make sure you smile every chance you get!

What was your experience like connecting with students on campus?

My experience has been nothing short of awesome. I have met some of my best friends, and I truly have never felt more loved and supported anywhere else. Being involved with campus ministry has helped me find like-minded friends with a similar love for the Lord, which has been nothing short of life changing.

Can you describe your experience with the transfer scholarships and applying for them?

The scholarship process was rather easy, I just submitted my transcript, and the Financial Aid office did the rest. I also applied to the Mission Ambassadors program through the Center of Mission and Belonging, and I also got involved with Writer’s Block, another scholarship opportunity through the Renaissance program.

How has the Mount supported you so far?

The Mount has helped me mold into the person I am today. At the beginning of my transfer experience, I was terrified about changing schools, but from the moment I stepped on campus, I knew I was home. The Mount helped me find my love for school again, something that I had thought I’d lost forever. I’ve never regretted my decision to come to the Mount, and I sincerely hope everyone can feel the love and support that our small campus community can provide. I truly love the Mount and will forever bleed blue and gold.

Anything else you want to share about your experience?

The Mount is truly the best place to be, and I wouldn’t trade my experience for the world! The support and love you can find here is unmatched.
